The battle was waxing hot. Our day began outside the gates of hell in Granite City with a forecast of continued high temperatures and high humidity. As we set up our pregnancy resource van, an explosion was heard and a plume of black smoke filled the air. Only two blocks down from this baby dumping mill an oxygen plant went up in flames. Emergency crews and sirens quickly flew by us as we stood in prayer before the mothers arrived.

The other half of Small Victories arrived and stood in the gap as we loaded our supplies and headed over the Mississippi River to St. Louis where the Susan G. Komen 9th annual Race for the Cure was underway. We brought the truth to the largest fundraiser event of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. It was a sea of pink as we walked to the event. We know Susan Komen cared about women and would want them to know about the most preventable risk factor for breast cancer.

The event boasted 65,295 in attendance. There were thousands of cancer survivors, friends, and families supporting each other and remembering those who have lost their battle to breast cancer. We concentrated our efforts and began walking through the muggy, overflowing crowds handing out the “Abortion Raises Breast Cancer Risk” brochures. www.abortionbreastcancer.com 

Women have the right to know that 28 out of 37 worldwide studies have independently linked induced abortion with breast cancer. Thirteen out of fifteen studies conducted on American women report increased risk. Seventeen studies are statistically significant, sixteen of which found increased risk. Most of the studies have been conducted by abortion supporters. The first study was published in an English publication in 1957 and focused on Japanese women. It showed a 2.6 relative risk or 160% increased risk of breast cancer among women who'd had an induced abortion.

Studies suggest that an induced abortion causes biological changes to occur in a woman's breasts which make her more susceptible to breast cancer. 

How many young teenage girls have put themselves at risk due to the accessibility of abortion-on-demand at the Hope abortion mill in Granite City, Illinois , where no parental consent is necessary? Abortion is basically being used as birth control.

Our mission is to help women with good, healthy choices, ones that won’t harm them. Women are responsible for their health care; shouldn’t they be made aware of the risks and the most preventable cause of breast cancer? Why aren’t women being told of this link?

A Komen staffer grabbed a brochure out of my hand and as soon as she saw the “A” word she went for help. She followed us throughout the crowds as we handed out literature. Those in attendance were very receptive. One woman even tapped me on the shoulder and asked me for a brochure and thanked us. We noticed the staffer following us. I overheard her say, “They are going to ruin this fundraiser.” I stopped and told her, “Don’t worry. We’re not going to rain on your fundraising parade. There is nothing negative in that brochure. It’s the truth. Don’t you care about women? There is a direct link between breast cancer and abortion. Why wouldn’t you want women to know about this preventative measure?”

She continued following us up to the main booths of the sponsors and supporters. She grabbed two police officers and they began trailing us. All this time we were still handing out brochures. We walked up to the Channel 5 reporters who were televising and sponsors of the event. They too took our literature and thanked us.

The police stopped us and began questioning us. They told us that we couldn’t be there, we had to leave and we couldn’t hand out literature. Again I was reminded of Daniel in the lion’s den. This policeman was towering over us. I told him, “Excuse me. We have every right to be here.” He said, “What makes you say that?” “We have a first amendment right of freedom of speech.” He kept pressing me. I told him, “God has given us an assignment and we are here to deliver His mail: the truth.”

I said, “There is nothing negative in that brochure. We are here to let women know that we love them enough to tell them the truth.” Again he told me that we couldn’t hand out anything and that we would go to jail if we didn’t leave. I told him, “I have been doing this for 5 years. My sister-in-law is running in this race. While she runs for lives, I hand out literature trying to save lives.” I then told him that we only had a few brochures left and that we would be exiting the event anyways. “The problem is that the Komen people don’t want us to affect their wallets. They just want to put on a nice fundraiser.”

That’s when I noticed the St. Louis Rams marching up Market Street . I felt my opportunity and I moved into their pathway and began talking to them, or rather their kneecaps. They looked down at me and saw the literature and they accepted it. One player commented, “This looks informative.” I replied, “It is. Educate yourself.” When I looked back, the police were gone.

That’s when we unrolled the banner and began marching down the main thoroughfare of Market Street . People were looking at the banner and I started handing out the last of our literature to those that were looking at the banner.

We prayed and then left to go to the City of Slaughter where the fire was under control at the oxygen plant. We joined our team members and began witnessing to the mothers walking inside. Throughout the morning, three precious babies were saved.

We were exhausted. It was a long day but it was worth it all.

The sad part was realizing that over 40,000 women will die in 2007 of breast cancer, and vital information that surfaced in the early 1980's is deliberately being withheld from women by the American Cancer Institute. Breast cancer was unheard of in the 1930's. What has been introduced to society that now has breast cancer at epidemic proportions? Elective abortion, and the numbers are soaring and victims are becoming younger and younger and a lot with no history of breast cancer in their families.

Breast cancer is the second leading cancer in women. Not having an abortion is the most preventable cause of the disease. Many of the risk factors can be controlled by the choices women make. Choosing between abortion or childbirth influences breast cancer risk. Why are the abortion industry and the media doing a complete blackout on the truth behind the elective abortion/breast cancer link? “There's a lot of money that is being made off sick women,” says Karen Malec, President of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, adding: “We're finding a pattern among these cancer fund-raising organizations” showing that their leaders previously were associated with abortion-advocacy groups, beginning with the founder of Komen herself, Nancy Brinker.

The integrity of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is questionable. Komen has proclaimed support for embryonic stem-cell research and funding for Planned Parenthood organizations.

When the abortion clinic says, “It's a woman's right,” without informing them with all the truth, it should be rephrased, “If you have an elective abortion, you could be receiving ‘last rites.’”

Women shouldn't have to cry...and don't have to die.
