Another mass shooting at yet another crowded, unsuspecting group of innocent people.
Yes, our nation has become a pattern of killing, hurting, healing and asking WHY?
One of our nation’s worst murder sprees was the senseless Columbine High School massacre in 1999. People are still asking WHY? This latest shooting took place inside a crowded theater just after midnight where the Batman “Dark Knight “trilogy was about to be premiered. The graphic scene was described as a scene “I never want to see again.” by witnesses. Bodies of babies, children, and teens scattered throughout the theater in bloodied seats, stairwells, and in their parent’s laps...motionless.
According to news reports, approximately 72 innocent people were shot, 58 wounded, 12 have died, 9 more are critical at this posting. The youngest victim was 4 months. The oldest, just 45 years old. One has to ask, considering the random pattern and frequencies of such rampages, what have we as a society done to ingrain such a total lack of respect for life, any life? There is no police force big enough to secure this nation from the violence within the soul of society that lies in wait, like a ticking time bomb. Then, one day it just goes off!
I ask you, could there be a connection between the bloodshed we have allowed to be shed in the womb and what we see in the streets, the High School, and now the movie theater? Have we become so calloused to premeditated murder, that a normal looking kid can just pick up a rifle, a shotgun and walk into a dark crowded theater and begin the carnage and calmly murder moviegoers? What makes this alleged shooter think he can do that to another person let alone persons? Could it be possible that when we removed God from every form of our lives, we have allowed the devil in?
This kid was an honor student. He was smart. As I understand it, he was a pre-med student who had recently dropped out. He was a loner. Quiet. Most mass-murders are, they harbor ill-will for a period of time, and then one day, they snap. That is not to say all loners are killers. But as a society we are responsible for those in it. But understand, we have been entrenched for over 39 years with bloodshed on demand. What then should society expect? When you sow bloodshed in the womb, you will reap it in the streets.
This is what we are reaping. A Culture of Death. We have become a savage nation when we allow the senseless murder of unborn children. We shouldn’t be surprised when these mass-shootings happen: in fact we need to be prepared for more. Hosea 4:2 says, “Bloodshed pursues bloodshed”. What will it take for us to connect the dots; murder in the womb and murder in the streets?
Lethal bullets versus curettes and suction hoses. There is no difference. Both kill. The one and only cure for us now, is acknowledgement of our sin and repentance.
II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people , who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will heal their land.” Instead of asking WHY? We should be asking WHEN? What kind of cold calculated person walks into a movie theatre and shoots a 4 month old baby? The same person who walks into an abortion clinic every day across our nation. It’s just a different weapon.
God have mercy!
