Being A Dad In A “Fatherless” Nation

February 12, 2024

“It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father.”

June 2009

“Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.”

Psalm 127:3-5

A man becomes a father at the moment of conception, but becomes a daddy when he interacts with his child. It is a privilege and big responsibility. Dads are entrusted to raise and provide for the children they co-create. The downside is some fathers are MIA, some by choice, leaving full responsibility of rearing their “immaculate conceptions” to the mothers. But, the most important thing a father can do is to love the mother.

Children are watching and learn from our actions. They humble us. It’s okay to ask their forgiveness when we mess up. They see mistakes are allowed; we are all human and mistakes are expected along our journey. I don’t know about you, but the time-out corners in our home have been warm quite often.

It’s important to spend time and remind our children of their talents. They are created in God’s image; they are to be celebrated. Daddies are great encouragers and another lesson in patience. Spend 15 minutes with your child outside with a baseball and bat. The window glass guy loves our family. It’s good to carry on traditions. Kids and families look forward to special times together. It strengthens and teaches that they are never alone.

Fathers are the biggest source of strength for a child. The innocent eyes of a child perceive father as the all-powerful, most knowledgeable, truly affectionate, and the most important person in the family. For daughters, fathers are the first men they adore and fall in love with. While for sons their fathers are the strongest person they know and someone they aspire to emulate. For those who may have lost their fathers or daddies, now, if you have not already, may be a good time to turn to and rely on your “Heavenly Father”.

A daddy carries pictures where his money used to be : ) He keeps his secret oath no matter how steep the grade, how insurmountable the odds. He will continue to play a major role in his child’s life. Thank you for the virtues, morals, strengths, wisdom, and emotional fortitude you may have passed on. Children couldn’t fare near as well without that loving guidance.

“One night a father overheard his son pray: Dear God, Make me the kind of man my Daddy is. Later that night, the father prayed, Dear God, Make me the kind of man my son wants me to be.”

Anyone can become a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.

Happy Father’s Day!
